MCM London Comic Con took place last week at Excel London, we checked out Europe’s leading comic con and hunted down it’s Japanese events & cosplay. With an eclectic mix of sci-fi, film, TV, online, video, comic book, gaming, anime and cosplay on show at MCM Comic Con, a record breaking 133,156 people attended, topping last years figures.
Cosplay (コスプレ ), is a combination of the words costume and role-play. A performance art in which participants, called cosplayers, wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. We saw some fantastic cosplay on show at Comic Con.
Everywhere we looked, there were Stormtroopers. This particular Stormtrooper held our menu at ransom. Hand the droid over, or the menu gets it the Stormtrooper said.
We spoke to Rita Repulsa and the Yellow Ranger from the Power Rangers.
We also spoke to these lovely ladies who were dressed in Lolita fashion. Lolita fashion was first made popular in Tokyo and has become more and more popular in recent years with fans abroad. These ladies had beautiful unicorn printed dresses and pastel hair.
Walking around MCM Comic Con was a dangerous affair. Zombies from The Walking Dead were everywhere. We had to watch out for zombie bites at every turn.
Guardians of the Galaxy cosplayers posed outside of the venue. “I am Groot”
The popular Japanese singer Amatsuki had his first gig at Comic Con this year on the MCM Fringe Stage on Saturday and Sunday.
As did the five strong Japanese rock band BAND-MAID.
We checked out Gudetama’s tea room at the Hello Kitty Hanami, and caught up with some interesting cosplayers who had came to the event especially. Check out our video report below on the event.
More exclusive interviews from Amatsuki and BAND-MAID coming soon.
